Baccarat

Game overview

Baccarat is a simple game where the player bets on which one of two hands will win (or on a Tie). These hands are known as the Player hand and the Banker hand. These terms however have no deeper significance than to distinguish between them. Each of the two hands is then played out according to set rules of drawing.

Once drawing is completed the two hands are compared and the result can be Player hand wins, Banker hand wins or hands Tie. The bettor may place his bet on any of these three outcomes prior to the cards being dealt.

The game is played with 8 decks of cards which are shuffled at the beginning of each hand.

Game play

Cards are given point values as follows: Ace = 1, 2-9 = face value, 10 and picture cards = 0.

Play begins by all players betting either on the "Player", "Banker", or a Tie. A card will be dealt to the Player, then one to the Banker, then a second card to the Player and finally a second card to the Banker.

The score of the hand is the right digit of the total of the cards. For example, if the two cards were a 9 and 5, then the total would be 14 and the score would be a 4. The scores will always range from 0 to 9 and it is impossible to bust.

A third card may or may not be dealt to either the Player or the Banker depending on the following rules:

  • If either the Player or the Banker has a total of an 8 or a 9 they both stand – this is known as a natural. This rule overrides all other rules
  • If the Player's total is 5 or less, then the Player hits, otherwise the Player stands
  • If the Player stands, then the Banker hits on a total of 5 or less. If the Player does hit, the chart below determines if the Banker hits (H) or stands (S):

Payouts

  • Once all card drawing is complete, the score of the Player and Dealer are compared; the winner is the one that has the highest score
  • Winning bets on the Banker pay 19 to 20 (even money less a 5% commission)
  • Winning bets on the Player pay 1 to 1
  • Winning bets on a Tie pay 8 to 1
  • In the event of a Tie, Banker and Player bets will push

Roadmaps

A roadmap facility is available to the player. This is in the format of a grid of 8 vertical rows by 12 horizontal columns. These track up to the last 96 hands played. Each cell of the grid will display 1 of 6 symbols. These symbols will indicate the following:

  • A Player win
  • A Banker win
  • A Tie
  • A Player win with a natural
  • A Banker win with a natural
  • A Tie with naturals

General information

Random game play

Cards are drawn from a shoe of 8 shuffled decks – play is random.

Return to player percentage

The expected return to player (RTP) reflects the theoretical return over a large number of plays. The RTP is expressed as the percentage returned to players in winnings of the total amount staked, e.g. if £1,000,000 was staked and £995,000 was returned, the RTP of the game for that period of play would be 99.5%. The expected RTP for this game is 85.64% - 98.94%. The actual RTP during a playing session can vary widely, in either direction, from the theoretical return.

Other

Game rules and information can be accessed from the game.

The maximum win from a single game is £250,000.
